Vaishno Devi: Sacred Mountain Pilgrimage — Guides, Itineraries & Tour Packages

Vaishno Devi is one of India’s most revered Shakti shrines, set in the Trikuta Hills above Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. Pilgrims travel about 13 km from Katra to the Bhawan on foot or by pony, battery car, helicopter and other approved services, subject to availability. It suits devotional travellers, families and visitors comfortable with a busy uphill pilgrimage route. March to June and September to November are generally favourable; October is pleasant but can be crowded during Navratri. Most travellers reach Katra by train or road, via Jammu airport.

Frequently Asked Questions: Vaishno Devi Travel

March to June and September to November generally offer comfortable conditions. October is pleasant, but Navratri can be exceptionally crowded.

Reach Katra by train, road or via Jammu Airport, about 50 km away. The shrine is reached from Katra through a roughly 13 km pilgrimage route.

Yatra registration is required before proceeding. Use official Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board channels and check current rules, registration windows and service availability.

The route is well-used and has facilities, but it includes an uphill walk, crowds and changing weather. Start early, pace the climb and follow Shrine Board and local advisories.

An approximate budget of ₹3,000–₹8,000 per person for two days can cover basic stays, meals and local transfers from Katra, excluding long-distance travel.

Two days are usually enough for arrival, registration, the pilgrimage and return. Allow three days for rest, delays, nearby visits or slower travel.
